2015 Improvment

Description

2015 was an incredibly busy year for me outside of art. I feel like I did less art than in 2014 (which was a year of much motivation and artistic production). With my last semester of college, graduation, moving, and now full-time job hunting it's felt harder to sit down and focus solely on art. This past year was quite a dark one for me, actually, and probably one of my most stressful in....ages. Most of the time I lacked motivation to draw, rather than simply not having time for it as implied above. 2015 really was a year of....apathy. Depression. Anxiety. Stuff I haven't had trouble with for years that suddenly resurged. Not fun.

Regardless, I feel like I really sat down and improved this year. While it's not terribly noticeable from looking at this overview, I spent quite a bit of time working on anatomy and color theory in particular. It looks like July was when things really started to get better, at least from my vantage point. I finally "found out" that using references for anatomy and such is not the evil monster I once made it out to be. I also developed a more solid painting style, I think.

Notes:-You may notice that quite a few of these have never been uploaded to dA. I've had a lot of problems finding the motivation to spend time and upload things for about....a half a year now. Even though I want to show you guys all the cool stuff I've been messing around with.... ;____;
-February's is the only traditional piece in the bunch, as I could not find a digital piece for that month...

THINGS I ACCOMPLISHED THAT I'M PROUD OF:
-Learned not to rely on filters for shading and stuff (it's ok to do that as an artist, I just felt that it was a personal crutch)
-Really buckled down and improved on color theory. Started using more color schemes (though still a little limited ;p)
-Learned the right way to use a reference for both anatomy and posing. Astonishment at how much a difference it actually made ensued.
-Actually tried to do some backgrounds.
-Realized that it's ok to leave things unfinished, and that it's ok not to feel guilty over it. Better 50 pages of unfinished idea-sketches than one page of complete ones, IMHO.

RESOLUTIONS FOR 2016:
-More dynamic poses! No more "Creature Facing Left and Just Standing Around".
-Continue working towards a personal digital style.
-Continue to work on learning anatomy, both animal and human.
-Backgrounds. More backgrounds, more detail.
-Think more about composition. Maybe try using a thumbnail method or something.
-Stop being afraid of failure. Just do it.

I remember when you were more a traditional artist than a digital one. Now you handle both quite well.
